The Girl Scouts of the USA are celebrating their 100th anniversary this year!
A century ago, the scouts had their humble beginnings in Savannah, GA, according to the Girl Scouts’ blog, with 18 girls for the first local Girl Scout meeting. The organization began with a goal of bringing girls out of isolation from their home environments and into the open air, in which they could participate in community service. Today, according to the Girl Scouts’ blog, the Girl Scouts of the USA has a membership of more than 3.2 million girls and adults in every residential zip code and in 90 countries.
As we all pause and honor a century of service and progress from the Girl Scouts of the USA, it’s also noteworthy to mention the fantastic cookies that have become a badge of honor for the scouts as well.
