Since August is the month for eating dessert first, and since coffee is the first thing most of us intake in the morning, I thought we should all take to eating coffee flavored desserts bright and early this month to give ourselves a sweet and perky beginning. And admittedly, when there’s any kind of dessert in the house, I tend to indulge in it morning, noon, and night. So don’t restrict yourself; eat these desserts anytime of day!
Below are some great coffee dessert recipes I rounded up on RecipeLion. The first recipe I found has many bold flavors mixed together, but it bakes to perfection. Irish Black Ginger Cake is heavily spiced with cinnamon, cloves, and ginger, sweetened with molasses, and perked with a full cup of strong coffee. Though this cake doesn’t need it, you can add coffee icing to it and any other cake recipe you have.
Here’s another caffeinated concoction I found; the morning you eat a slice of Espresso Coffee Cake, you won’t be needing to go to Starbucks after. This cake is drizzled with a glaze made with both strong coffee and espresso, and the cake has a sprightly blend of espresso and vanilla.
The last recipe I found was Austrian Coffee Cake, which should be made for three excellent reasons: one, it’s good to get a taste of Europe once in awhile, two, this recipe calls for a taste of tipsy (rum or brandy), which combines marvelously with the third reason, HALF a pint of strong dark coffee. This is a very moist cake with butter, cream, AND coffee. I think the Austrians really have this whole coffee dessert thing figured out.
If these recipes aren’t enough to cover the whole month, I have others from coffee bean, craving bloggers. A post I found on Mission: Food features Coffee Cream Pie, which has perhaps my favorite bi-combination of flavors in the world: coffee and chocolate. There is also 1/4 cup of coffee liqueur, making it an undeniable trifecta. Another irresistible recipe was from Espresso and Cream, Coffee Cheesecake Ice Cream Pie. The title says it all… And lastly, All Day I Dream about Food featured Walnut Torte with Coffee Whipped Cream. I love this recipe because I think walnuts in cake make it wholesome and mellow. Also, for those that are gluten free or with gluten free friends, this recipe is perfect. But if you’re not, it’s still light and tasty, and who can say no to coffee flavored whipped cream? I never could.
