Dessert Potluck: How to Throw a Party When the Olympic Games Start

July 27, 2012 by FaveHealthyRecipes Leave a Comment

The best part of the Olympic Games is the beginning during the opening ceremonies because it brings everyone together in one place. On the contrary, the best part of every meal is the end. Dessert is also a time that brings people together. So why not mix the two favorites for a Dessert Potluck Olympic Games Party with a little help from FaveHealthyRecipes.com? Potlucks are my favorite because even if I’m hosting, I’m only in charge of bringing one dish. The pressure is off when your family and friends supply their favorite foods, and you know it’s going to be good. You’ll end up with the cream of the crop just like at the Olympics. So bring your A game and follow some of these helpful hints when throwing an Olympics Desert Potluck.

Get into the Team Spirit

An Olympic themed party lends itself to an obvious international aspect. When you’re inviting guests, put them on teams of different countries and have them bring healthy dessert dishes that represent a specific country or region around the world. Get a head start with some of these international food recipes.

Chinese Style Almond Cookies – there is no fortune involved in this cookie, but it’s worth it for some far east flavor.
Tres Leches Milk Cake – go south of the border with three types of milk for a moist decadent dessert.
Light Tiramisu – Ciao bella Italia! Don’t feel guilty about this coffee inspired treat. It’s lightened up so you can indulge and still look like an Olympic athlete.
Apple Pie (pictured) – there is nothing more American than apple pie. Here is a version that is layered so you can really taste all the flavors

Games don’t have to be just for the Olympians

Whether your friends are chefs or not, there is nothing more fun than a little competitive spirit, especially at a dessert potluck. Provide entertainment by having your guests go head to head. Blindfold contestants and have them try foods where they must identify the ingredients. Or, create a quiz about classic dishes, famous foodies and grocery prices.

And the winner is…

Give out prizes to those who represent their country best with the dessert they bring. Trying to come up with something to use for a gold medal? How about any one of these fun olympic crafts at FaveCraftsBlog.com. Channel your creative spirit and have your friends dress up in traditional garb from their chosen country.

Food is a concept that brings people together much like the Olympics. No matter what is going on between countries or within individual parts of the world, the Olympics always happen and so does dessert! So grab those gold medal cooks and bakers and have a dessert potluck where you can exchange recipes, play games, and feast while watching the rest of the world come together for an experience unlike any other.
