You remember that episode of the popular 90’s sitcom Seinfeld when George Costanza gets George Steinbrenner hooked on calzones? That may seem like a long time ago, but the laughs are still fresh in our minds. Today, July 13, 2010, the real George Steinbrenner died at the age of 80.
In his life, George Steinbrenner was the principal owner and managing partner of the New York Yankees baseball team. He is considered responsible for bringing that baseball team to the multi-billion industry it is today. In what way can we do honor to the passing of such a great and influential man? Well the Seinfeld answer would no doubt be to enjoy some calzones together and say a few words about George Steinbrenner and the New York Yankees.

The calzone in seinfeld contained eggplant, pepperoni, and cheese. The best guess on cheese is ricotta as well as mozarella or a 3 or 4 cheese ‘pizza mix’. There would have been other things in there too like garlic, chilli flakes, salt, pepper, this stuff is probably sauteed with diced eggplant first and then mixed in with the ricotta. It is likely there would need to be a tomato flavour too, which could be either chopped tomatoes cooked with the eggplant or a pizza sauce served on the side.
