For the July Morsel question, we asked you “What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?” There is a wide range of different things people like…see what our blogger friends had to say:
From Sabrina P., Sabby in Suburbia
I’m pretty plain Jane when it comes to ice cream. I LOVE good quality vanilla bean ice cream with lots of bean flecks, like Häagen Dazs. They also make an awesome cookies and cream. I can eat the entire pint. YUM!
From Robyn Lee, The Girl Who Ate Everything
We just got a shipment of like..16 pints of ice cream in the office, So it’s a good day. 🙂
I love ice cream. My favorite gelato flavor is pistachio, by far. But I’ve never had a good pistachio-flavored ice cream (that is, not Italian). Whenever I’ve tried them they taste more like almond than pistachio (except when I’ve made it myself). As for favorite ice cream flavors from a non-Italian place, black sesame, taro, and strawberry.
From Cal Orey, The Writing Gourmet
Ah cold, creamy ice cream in the summertime. It’s one of my favorite calcium-rich foods! Naturally, I go for the all-natural brands that lose the cat tail’s list of ingredients you can’t pronounce let alone decode. Fave flavor? This is a no-brainer. As I’m working as hard as a worker bee on my forthcoming book — The Healing Powers of Honey (Kensington, October 2011) — I often savor Häagen Dazs Vanilla Honey Bee ice cream — and team it with fresh fruit that our honey bees help on our planet. The hint of honey in this vanilla ice cream is amazing and a stand out from other vanilla ice creams I’ve favored. Plus, the company is aware of our dwindling honey bee population and they make this known on the carton. A scoop to the honey bees. Thank you my dear worker friends. Ice cream is by far my favorite dessert. I love it! My favorite flavor is vanilla with honey drizzled on the top. So so simple, yet so so delicious!
From Bethany Morford, This, That, & T’other
The best ice cream on the planet is definitely cookies and mint. Not mint chip, not cookie dough, but cookies and mint. The slight crisp of the cookies combined with the smooth cool flavor of the mint make the best combo anyone could dream up. It is fairly light and refreshing, perfect for a hot summer day!
From Danica P., Danica’s Daily
There is nothing better than vanilla bean. I really think those little “flecks” of vanilla bean make it better than any ice cream….plus you can add any toppings to vanilla like GOOD caramel.
From Becky P., Divorced Diva’s Guide to Survival
My favorite flavor of ice cream is a homemade strawberry cream ice cream made with a cooked custard and pureed fresh strawberries….nothing says summer to me like getting out the ice cream maker!!
From Jarvis Holliday, Grown People Talking
For years, I was a big fan of the most complex ice creams–the more ingredients and flavors the better. I would often buy the Breyers brand in Oreo, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, and Snickers. It was as if I was happy to be able to get my favorite cookies and candies in an ice cream. But lately I’ve been appreciating the simpler ice creams. Just today I bought a quart of vanilla and a quart of chocolate and I’ll be eating off those for days to come.
