Prepare for Easter! How to Peel Hard Boiled Eggs

March 7, 2021 by RecipeChatter

Here comes Easter and, with it, way more hard boiled eggs than you ever knew what to do with (which may be a relief, if you’ve been wondering how to use up eggs in your fridge)! Hope you’re ready for all those Egg Salad Sandwiches (Dad’s favorite, right?)! However, it’ll be much easier to use up those eggs if you don’t have a terrible time peeling them. That’s why we’ve put together this super easy guide to show you how to peel hard boiled eggs.

Bonus points: no sharp egg shells under your fingernails. (Hate that!)

First, you’re going to need to know how to boil eggs perfectly, so read all about that. Older eggs are easier to peel than fresh eggs. Once you’ve boiled the eggs, dyed them, and enjoyed them for a while for Easter (or skipped the dying and went straight to eating), you’re ready for Step 1.

How to Peel Hard Boiled Eggs

Step 1: Cool down the eggs

There are a couple methods for this. The easiest is to dump ice into water, then dump the eggs into the water for 10 minutes. You can also put the eggs in a container in the fridge for a while—that is my dad’s preferred method. I am not sure if it makes a difference for flavor/texture if you let them cool down slowly in the fridge. Feel free to weigh in in the comments!

Step 2: Place eggs in a jar or bowl

You want to transfer the eggs into a jar or bowl with room temperature water. This will make the eggs easier to peel—the shell will pull away due to the change in temperature. https://www.youtube.com/embed/c47vXJSpwbM

Step 3: Find the hollow spot

Boiled eggs have a small, hollow point at the base or top. Tap your egg and find it. That’s a good place to start cracking the shell without digging into the yummy part.

Step 4: Peel away!

Once you’ve cracked the hollow part, the shell should easily peel away in sheaths.

What’s your tip for peeling eggs? Let us know below in the comments!
