Today’s Recipe

On the sixth day of our 12 Days of Christmas in July Giveaway, my true love gave to me…this Salty Sweet Spiced Nuts inspired by Silpat and made in our test kitchen!
Silpat-Recipe
INGREDIENTS

  • Cooking spray
  • 4 cups mixed nuts (unsalted)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon butter

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly coat with cooking spray.

Combine nuts with salt, black pepper, cumin, and cayenne pepper.

Heat sugar, water, and butter in a small saucepan over medium heat until the butter is melted.

Cook for 1 minute and remove from heat. Slowly pour butter mixture over the bowl of nuts and stir to coat.

Transfer nuts to the prepared baking sheet and spread into a single layer.

Bake nuts for 10 minutes. Stir nuts until the warm syrup coats every nut. Spread into a single layer, return to the oven, and bake until nuts are sticky and roasted, about 6 minutes. Allow to cool before serving.

my favourite appetizer is Dates stuffed with blue cheese and wrapped with bacon, then baked. the Silpat would be fantastic to use, because right now I find myself having to use parchment paper , due to the stickiness of the dates and the fat from the bacon.

I make pizza a lot and love strange, out of the ordinary combinations. When we have guests over I will make the pies up and cut them into smaller, bite size pieces. A family/friend favorite has Bosc pears, caramelized onions, chopped dates, candied pecans, brie, arugula, bacon, smoked cheddar and its served with a raspberry jalapeno dipping sauce!

My favorite appetizer is donkey tails. Just take Armour dried beef, spread with cream cheese and roll a scallion inside. Sounds weird but it is really yummy!
